High-Profit Greenhouse Plants | Short and Long Term Income

December 1, 2020 by Eric Leave a Comment

High profit greenhouse plants

Today we shall be looking at high-profit greenhouse plants. We do know that crop production is quite a challenging venture, and at times the most effective approach to money-making is to plant crops that are highly profitable. This may translate to higher initial investment and operational costs, but may also be the most likely way to earn a solid income from greenhouse farming.

Are very high initial investment costs a must for one to profit in agriculture? (Find out how you can actually profit from agriculture)

Greenhouse farming as we know it is a unique farming practice that involves farmers growing crops in sheltered structures that are usually covered by materials that either transparent or translucent. The main reason behind the creation and utilization of greenhouses is to create favorable growing conditions, as well as to protect the plant from unfavorable factors such as harsh weather and pests. The term “greenhouse farming” is quite bold, in the way it involves a variety of sheltered structures and elements, some of the major elements that are linked with this type of farming include:

  • The shape of the greenhouse
  • The intended lifespan
  • The material used to cover the structure
  • The size of the farm
  • The level of technology that will be applied to manage the farm.

Farmers are therefore required to plan beforehand on a number of elements that support the well-being of their crops, in a bid to ensure that the yields are optimal. As a greenhouse farmer, you will find that the farm management tasks mainly come down to the following variables:

  • Sunlight
  • Natural ventilation
  • The size of the greenhouse farm
  • The efficiency of the materials used
  • All the costs associated with the crop production

If you get all the above factors right, you can proceed to plant any of the following highly-profitable crops.

  1. Ginseng

This is a crop that has been used for quite a long time in the Asian culture for several purposes, such as healing and as a tonic. In the present day world, it is highly sort after, to the extent that it is referred to as “green gold. You will be surprised to know that even George Washington saw the great potential in this crop, to the extent that he pushed for it to be relied upon in the financing of the war against the British.

If you happen to have a small piece of land that you are not currently using, and are patient enough, you can eventually reap significantly high rewards. We are talking about patience here because these plants take about 6 years to eventually mature. The part of the ginseng plant that is sought after is the root, and if you can wait for the 6 years to elapse, you can make as much as $100,000 from half an acre of land. If you cannot wait for that long, you can simply sell the rootlets of the ginseng plants, though you may not earn equally massive profits.

  1. Herbs

You can also make a significant amount of money from growing herbs in your greenhouse. We have already seen how herbs grow well in window sills, even during winter when there is little light. This implies that they are not necessarily demanding crops, which means that you will not have to spend a lot of time and attention ensuring that they are growing well.

If you can get fresh culinary herbs to groceries and restaurants, then you can make very good money ( more so if you can do it consistently). You can also sell your produce in farmers’ markets, where once again, you can fetch a good amount of money in profits.

All you need to know is how exactly you will be presenting the produce to the buyers. One popular way is snipping and packaging the herbs, whether in their dried or undried state. There is a broad range of herbs that you can grow and sell in this manner, including basil, chives, cilantro, oregano, parsley, catnip, chamomile, lavender, marshmallow, and St John’s wort. You can grow these herbs with serious cooks in mind, provided that you can establish that they are open to purchasing supplies from farmers like you.

  1. Gourmet Mushrooms

These mushrooms can actually grow anywhere provided the right conditions are present. The good thing is that they usually yield a very high return per square foot. There are two very popular varieties of gourmet mushrooms, namely: oyster and shiitake. These are usually sold in their fresh and dried states in grocery stores, as well as Farmer’s markets. Oysters happen to be the most productive varieties of the two options. They can actually produce close to 25 pounds per square foot, each year. Oysters fetch prices of up to $7 per pound in Farmer’s Markets- to mean that one can make about $17500 from a 10 by 10 square foot patch, every season.

  1. Bamboo

Trees and shrubs usually take quite some time to grow. Bamboo, on the other hand, matures very quickly and, hence can bring in massive profits to its growers. Maturing fast is actually an understatement when it comes to bamboo. It is known that these plants can grow more than 2 feet in a 24 hour period. If you, therefore, decide that you will be growing bamboo, then you should know that this is exactly what you are signing up for.

Bamboo is gaining popularity as a landscaping plant, and those who farm it have already made it clear that its demand is on the rise.

While most people assume that bamboo is only suited for tropical climates, it also does very well in hardy and subfreezing weather. Now, the good news is that potted bamboo can fetch up to $200 per plant, so you can make such a large amount of money in a short time.

Bamboo farming may not have extreme demands, which means that you can always get a decent profit margin on an annual basis. If anything, a greenhouse will be the best place to control all the necessary growth factors so that you can get the maximum possible yield.

Knowing about the most profitable plants to grow in greenhouses is one thing. Knowing how to make maximum profits from them is another. Here is how you can actually step up your moneymaking game by relying on the information presented by experts in this field.
