August 29, 2018 by Pete Leave a Comment

This is a review of a company called Augusta Precious Metals. What is Augusta Precious Metals? Is it for collectors or investors?

Owner: Isaac Nuriani (Founder & CEO)

Price: Depends on your investments.

Who is it for: Precious metals investors

Important to mention before we continue with the review:

We always strongly recommend doing your research online before you choose a company to invest in. There are so many reviews online where former clients claim they have been ripped off and scammed. One tricky way companies get away with this is they disguise charges in so-called “hidden fees”.

So always be aware and please, investigate completely before you make your choice when it comes to big investments.

With that being said, let’s continue with the review!

Online Reviews and ratings from their clients

Below I have listed the most trusted and well-known review and rating sites online to see what score they have given Augusta Precious Metals as this is a good indication of how good the particular company performs and treat their clients:

BBB

Score: A+

BCA

Score: AAA

Any red flags?

I searched an extra mile for this because I could´t believe there was no complaints at all, because in the end of the day, even mother Theresa have haters, right? Have been in this industry long enough to know that pretty much all companies have some complaints, it is hard to make everyone happy…

I managed to find two complaints, one was a bit old (from 2014). The other one (from 2018) was actually VERY SERIOUS… you might want to see for yourself:

Both complaints can be found on a site named RipOff Report:

Here is the first (not so serious one):

In 2014 I responded to an online ad from Augustus Precious Metals about a home storage IRA that they were advertising. I transferred money to them to set up the home storage IRA. I paid them a fee to have it set up and they sent me the gold to store in my safe deposit box. Everything seemed OK until I received an audit letter from the IRS in 2016 stating that the home storage IRA Augustus set up is illegal. I was forced to pay almost $2000  in penalties to the IRS and the IRA Augustus set up was invalidated. In their quest for greed I lost of money for retirement needs. They scammed me into believing that a home storage IRA was legal but it’s not.

Here is the second (more serious one):

Augusta precious metals sent them $ 145,000.00 from my simple IRA to buy gold, ended up with $72,000.00 in gold in my account in 2016 and gold has gone up in price It appears, but I’m not positive that Augusta Precious Metals charged me about twice what the going spot price was for the gold coins that are in my account at Kingdom trust, who is holding the coins for me. beware I don’t want to see this happen to anyone else. I’m 71 and I don’t have away to make this up. I thought i was protecting my small IRA.

(see more details on the RipOff Report site, opens in new window)

Both complaints above are there for anyone to see online, I only present to you what I found that you can find yourself only by performing a simple Google search. Important to mention here is that there can be a possibility that a competitor to Augusta have written those complaints, believe it or not, such things actually happens sometimes.

P.S.

You might want to know about another company that is top-rated by more independent 3rd party consumer protection agencies than ANY other company in this industry?

Is Augusta Precious Metals A Scam?

No, it is not a scam.

It is a legit company that seems to be doing a good job based on the reviews I found online. They have been around since 2012 are accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 2015. These two factors usually mean they can be trusted and are here to stay for a while.

(You should always make your own research based on the qualities that are important to you before you make your decision).

Are there better alternatives out there?

YES! There are a few ones I would consider better alternatives but the absolute best one I can recommend is; GOLDCO.

Goldco offers precious metals, and Gold IRA to its clients with expert support. They have been in business for over a decade and received great reviews from their customers and gotten great scores on different online review and rating sites. It is easy to get started by going to their website where you find all the information you need to get going.

What is CMI Gold and Silver – Overview

CMI Gold and Silver was founded in 1973 in Phoenix, Arizona by Bill Haynes. It is a company that sells gold and silver bullion bars and coins and is one of the oldest precious metals dealers in the US. Mike Haynes is listed as the CEO on the company website (April 2018).

How does it work?

If you are interested in doing business with CMI give them a call at 800 528 1380.

CMI Gold and Silver contact

The precious metal prices change all the time, therefore the company has a rule that all orders have to be made by phone. When selling metals the items sold must be shipped the same day. CMI accepts payment by check or by bank wire transfer.

When an order is shipped, CMI contacts the buyer with a tracking number and an expected date of delivery.

The products and services offered

  • Gold and Silver Bars
  • American Gold Eagles
  • American Silver Eagles
  • Backdated Silver Eagles
  • Platinum
  • Palladium

CMI Gold and Silver offers to help out with setting up an IRA account through GoldStar Trust Company. After the funding has been approved the customer can buy products from the company to put in the IRA account.

What about the fees?

  • “the annual storage fee for a precious metals IRA is .1% with a minimum of $90 and no maximum. Example: annual storage fees on an IRA valued at $200,000 would be $200; annual storage fees on an IRA valued $2,000,000 would be $2,000.”
  • Setup Fee: $25 for a one time only charge.

How is the support?

The website offers a lot of information about precious metals, rules, and regulations. They even have a section where they go through different selling techniques that salesmen often trick their customers into buying products. It is definitely interesting to read if you have time to see all the things you shouldn’t fall for as a buyer. Most of the customer reviews I came across claims that CMI had good customer service.

What is DBS Coins – Overview

DBS Coins is a family business that was founded in 2008 and they claim to have over 40 years of experience in the precious metals industry. The company headquarters is located in Dana Point, CA. DBS Coins works on selling good products and their main focus is having high customer satisfaction. In 10 years the company has gained great success selling precious metals and built up a satisfied clientele.

ebay

The company is a member of the PNG, PCGS, and NGC, and has been BBB-accredited since 2011. You can even buy their products through eBay.

How does it work?

You can order products online or by calling in and talking to a seller who helps out with the purchase. They even offer to buy back precious metals if you should change your mind.

The products and services offered

  • American Eagle gold/silver coins
  • American Gold Buffaloes
  • Canadian Maple Leaf gold/silver coins
  • Perth Mint Kangaroo silver/gold coins
  • Australian Philharmonic gold/silver coins
  • Johnson Matthey Silver/gold bars
  • Pamp Suisse gold bars

They offer storage for your precious metals in these countries:

  • Canada
  • Singapore
  • Germany
  • Switzerland

They also offer to help out with your Gold IRA. DBS Coins works with two custodians that you can choose for your gold IRA.

The two custodians are:

  • Gold Star Trust
  •  New Direction IRA.

==> Click here to see my #1 recommended IRA custodian

What about the fees?

  • DBS Coins offer free shipping on all orders that are over $25 and within the USA.
  • The online order minimum is $50.
  • The storage fees depend on the investment and may differ depending on the scale of the metals at the depository.

How is the support?

You can contact them by phone, mail, or post. There are forms on the website that you can fill out and they promise to respond to all inquiries if time permits.

Judging by the online reviews it seems like they have good customer support. DBS Coins takes pride in its high customer satisfaction and it is a priority that every new customer feels they can trust their sales rep. The website is very user-friendly and provides a lot of information about the precious metal coins and bars.

Is DBS Coins a Scam?

red flagNo, it is not a scam. It is a legit company and they seem like a good choice when looking for a gold broker in many ways, however, if they are your best alternative out there is a whole other story.

That leads us to the:

Reviews, ratings, and complaints on DBS Coins

You should always review and compare different investment companies against each other before you make a final decision.

Below I have listed the most trusted and well-known review and rating sites online to see what score they have given DBS Coins as this is a good indication of how good the particular company performs and treat their clients:

BBBBBB

Score: NOT Accredited by the BBB

BCA

Score: N/A (not available)

Trustlinktrustlink rating

Score: N/A (not available)

Trustpilottrustpilot rating

Score: N/A (not available)

Yelpyelp rating

Score: N/A (not available)

Ripoff Reportripoff report review

Score: N/A (not available)

The conclusion from this?

Well, as you clearly can see there is not much to be found on the company, other than 1 complaint on the BBB website, and also an A rating but not an accredited business by the BBB… Other than that there was nothing to be found in the form of reviews from real users.

This does not have to be a bad sign… But it could be.

Are there better alternatives out there?

YES! There are a few ones I would consider better, I have them all listed on this website, but the absolute best one I can recommend is; GOLDCO

GOLDCO offers precious metals, and Gold IRA to its clients with expert support. It is easy to get started by going to their website where you find all the information you need to get going.

DBS Coins pros

The good

  • Customer satisfaction is a priority.
  • Free shipping in the US

The bad

DBS Coins cons

  • Not a complete IRA custodian.
  • Not much to be found in the form of reviews and ratings from the most trusted and well-known sites.

Final words and verdict

DBS Coins is a company where you can find precious metals and purchase your extra investment for the future. Investing in gold is always a good choice, DBS Coins know this and they also know their products. If you are looking for a new gold broker I think they can offer a lot of help. There are very few bad reviews online and the complaints are often about long shipping time and not about the products or sales experience.

Since DBS Coins is not a real Gold IRA custodian my overall rating is 3,5. They have a lot of products but for the real investors who are looking for a complete custodian, they might not be the right fit.

Verdict: Legit (but NOT recommended)

Overall rating: 3.2 out of 5 stars (3.2 / 5)

Ok, I think that sums up the overall view of this company pretty well. I would say it is a legit one.

However, as there is barely anything to be found on them in the form of reviews and ratings from their clients, and their lack of accreditation from the BBB I do not feel that the company can be recommended, right?

P.S.smart

I do ALWAYS recommend that you do your research and compare different companies against each other before making any final decisions.

You made a wise decision to read this review and you are a smart person. I am absolutely sure that you will find the right company that suits your particular needs the best, and that you feel safe to do business with.
