Kitco Metals is a Canadian bullion dealer with headquarters in Montreal, New York, and Hong Kong. Bart Kitner is the founder of Kitco and he started his entrepreneurial journey in the late ’70s as a college student who had an eye for business.
In 1995 Kitco.com was successfully launched and it was the first time the prices, trends, and news of the gold market were available for anyone who was curious.
How does it work?
The website is full of external links that lead you to where you want to go. If you are shopping for coins, for example, there is an online store that is found on the website where you can purchase the gold or silver of your choice.
The products and services offered
Bullion bars and coins in gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and rhodium including;
- Canadian Maples
- American Eagles
- Vienna Philharmonics
- Krugerrands
They have their own signature products that are .9999 fine silver products and pure gold bar.
The company also provides services as secure storage located in Canada and Hong Kong and helping out with placing precious metals in IRA accounts.

- Accurate market information is available anytime and anywhere.
What about the fees?
The fees for the IRA accounts depends on which custodian you chose. Kitco offers 10 different companies that you can pick from.
Storage fees are based on the size and type of precious metals stored.

Is Kitco Metals A Scam?
No, I can’t say that it is. It seems like a legit company. They have been around for a couple of years and seem to be doing a good job at selling precious metals.
Remember to always do your own research and make your own decision based on what your gut is telling you about the company.
Are there better alternatives out there?
YES! There are a few ones I would consider better alternatives, I got many of them listed on this site, but the absolute best one I can recommend is; Goldco.

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and that is true in most cases. At first, glance Kitco Metals didn’t strike me as a sincere company. When I first saw the website my thoughts were that this company has to be a scam.
The website is stuck in the ’90s and definitely needs an upgrade, there are too many pages, ads, and sponsored material. The external links that open up in new windows are annoying and made me want to give up on it. But then I found what I was looking for, it takes time and is not the best websites I have seen but it seem to be a decent company.
In my opinion, a gold custodian should build trust with the client right off the bat. It is important that it is clear and easy to find the facts that you need. If it takes too long or if you can´t find what you are looking for it is likely that you’ll give up. In a modern world where the alternatives are many, it is extra important that the message you are trying to convey shines through in less than a minute. Maybe some people like the design of Kitco.com but for me, it brought down the experience and that is why my overall rating is a 1 out 5 this time around.
What company do I recommend?
If you want to protect and secure your retirement savings in 2023 GOLD is the way to go. There are a lot of companies out there that offer great services but at the end of the day, you have to be able to choose a custodian that you trust.
