Company: Midland IRA
Owner: Dave Owens
Who is it for: People looking to invest in a self-directed IRA.
Overall rating: (3 / 5) Not recommended
Important to mention before we go into more details of this review:
We always strongly recommend doing your research online before you choose a company to invest with. There are so many reviews online of clients being ripped off and scammed. The most common way people are getting scammed is through so-called “hidden-fees” so please investigate thoroughly before you make your decision.
With that being said, let´s continue with the review on Midland IRA!
What is Midland IRA?
Based out of Fort Myers Florida, Midland IRA is a self-directed IRA provider. There are conflicting reports on its date of foundation. The following screenshot from crunchbase.com says it was founded in 2004
But the following exact excerpt from their website says otherwise:
“The existing organization was actually started in 1974 as an accounting firm on Sanibel Island and has developed into a mid-market company specializing in self-directed IRA administration and 1031 exchange facilitation.
Since 2002, the Midland IRA team has been dedicated to providing the highest level of service in the industry. Our regional offices are staffed with well-trained IRA professionals, many who have been awarded the designation of Certified IRA Services Professional (CISP) by the American Banking Association’s Institute of Certified Bankers.
Additionally, our 1031 team has been facilitating exchanges since 1997.”
As explained in previous reviews, self-directed IRA allows people to invest in their retirement funds without limitations and with a lot of flexibility. They can choose when, how and where they want to do it. They can also select a product to invest in from a myriad of alternative investments offered by Midland IRA. We’ll discuss these later in the review.
Midland IRA offers administrative services, recordkeeping and education for their clients. It is also a qualified intermediary for 1031 exchanges.
Here are some of their other qualifications, as stated in their website: “We are a member of the Federation of Exchange Accommodators, and we are also a qualified intermediary with staff who are Certified Exchange Specialists® who can expertly facilitate 1031 exchanges.”
Midland IRA is accredited by the BBB who give it a rating of A.

Can you store with the company?
Yes, you can! Here’s an excerpt from their website that explains this:
“Midland IRA is equipped to handle all the unique requirements involved with holding precious metals in your retirement plan. We arrange for storage in a depository, facilitate valuations for IRS reporting, and provide account administration.”
Can you sell back to the company and can you get the precious metals delivered home?
I looked for the answer to these questions in the Midland IRA website. Sadly, I found no answers.
The website also doesn’t include information about the countries Midland IRA allows.

Final Words and Verdict
Verdict: Legit ( Based on the physical address provided and BBB accreditation )
Overall rating: (3 / 5)
Ok, I think that sums up the overall picture of this company pretty good. Based on all that is said above, I would advise staying away from Midland IRA.
There are companies out there with a lot more reviews. Although they got some technical details and qualifications covered, I wouldn’t risk working with Midland IRA. Here’s a great company you can work with instead (see below)!
